Story Of RDF

In 2010, a young man sat alone in a small room in Hackney, feeling lost and desolate. This was Lamar Roberts, a 17-year-old who, after leaving school with less-than-ideal GCSE results, believed his future was bleak. Struggling with smoking and drinking, he felt trapped in a cycle of emptiness and repetition.

Yet, even in the darkest moments, Lamar found a glimmer of hope through his faith. Turning to the Holy Bible, he experienced a profound shift in mindset, embracing a more positive outlook. Despite countless setbacks, he never gave up. He clung to a vision for his future, writing down his dreams and believing they would come true.

One day, Lamar discovered a letter from his late mother, who had passed away from cancer when he was just four. The letter read: “Lamar, do your basketball when you get older, son. Be good for your family and don’t forget that I love you.” This heartfelt message reignited his passion and gave him the strength to pursue basketball with Newham Youngbloods. He transformed his life, shed old habits, and dedicated himself to the sport, always pushing forward with unwavering determination.

Lamar’s relentless pursuit and dedication paid off in extraordinary ways. He went on to become a British Basketball League World Champion, achieving this remarkable feat back-to-back. His journey from struggling youth to champion was a testament to his unyielding spirit.

Inspired by his own transformation, Lamar wanted to share his journey with others. He pursued coaching, collaborated with various organisations, schools, and communities, and founded the Right Development Foundation (RDF).
