Right Development Foundation (RDF) began in a small room in Hackney in 2010, a room that held a young man battling with depression, confusion, and hopelessness.

That young man was Lamar Roberts, just 17 years old. He had left school with disappointing GCSE results, feeling like a failure with no direction. To escape his pain, Lamar turned to smoking and drinking, but it only made things worse. Life felt repetitive, progress felt impossible, and his dreams seemed out of reach.

In the middle of this dark period, Lamar began to cry out for change. He turned to his faith in God, began reading the Bible daily, and slowly rebuilt his mindset. Even though progress came with setbacks, his vision grew clearer, he wrote down his dreams again and again, declaring that one day they would become reality.

Then one moment changed everything.
Lamar found a letter written by his late mother, who had passed away from cancer when he was just four years old. The letter read:

“Lamar, do your basketball when you get older, son. Be good for your family and don’t forget that I love you.”

Those words lit a fire inside him. Inspired by his mother’s message, Lamar began pursuing basketball seriously with Newham Youngbloods. As he trained, he became healthier, more disciplined, and found purpose again.

He called what was happening inside him a “Right Development”, and he knew he wanted to help others experience the same transformation.

From that vision, RDF was born. Lamar began coaching, working multiple jobs, and partnering with schools, organisations, and local authorities to build something bigger than himself, a program that develops not just athletes, but strong, confident individuals.

Today, RDF Eagles represents growth, discipline, and belief. We’re far from the middle or end of this story, this is just the beginning.
